Our Facilities
We have a variety of different facilities on our premises that can be used for retreats, group activities and events.

St Joseph Retreat House
St Joseph's Retreat House offers comfortable accommodation in a tranquil location.
The rooms are comfortable and vary in size. There is a large dining / meeting room and a well appointed kitchen.
St Joseph's House can sleep up to 9 comfortably as there are 5 single rooms, 1 double room and 2 twins.
Crash pad accommodation can be added if necessary for larger groups.
St Joseph Hermitage
The St Joseph Hermitage is a charming stand-alone cottage, perfect for offering individuals or couples the opportunity to draw closer to God in complete isolation.
The Hermitage comes with its' own double bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, microwave, hotplate, combined dining & living area, and cosy log fire for winter.
12 Stars Coffee Shop
This convivial space is perfect for groups to share lunch, listen to a talk or have a quiet espresso coffee.
With picnic tables outside overlooking the Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Light, the Pilgrim shelter is a great place to sit, converse and relax.
The Pilgrim shelter can be booked for events or special group bookings.
Gift Shop
The Beatitudes Gift Shop is located in the Pilgrim Shelter and is open Tuesday to Saturday 9am to 4pm and for 1 hour after Sunday Mass.
Stock includes quality books, statues, holy cards, medals and rosaries and much more.
Souvenirs of the Sanctuary and the Beatitudes Community are also sold here as are some craft items made by the Community.
Stock can also be shipped NZ wide.
Picnic Area
The picnic area is located in Mary's garden outside the Pilgrim Shelter.
There are picnic tables, a children's playground, extra tables and seating on the deck and access to BBQs on request.
Pilgrims are welcome to bring their picnic and enjoy their time at the Sanctuary overlooking the Shrine to Mary, Mother of the Light.
Chapel
The Beatitudes Chapel is the centre for the Prayer lives of the Community of the Beatitudes and the liturgical life of the Sanctuary.
This beautiful intimate Chapel is a beautiful place for prayer and contemplation.
A small separate confessional is also located next to it.

Te Ara o te Mārama - Mission Trail
The Sanctuary connects pilgrims to the first Catholic Mission to Oceania which came from Fourvière in Lyon, France.
Pilgrims can discover places to learn and pray. Still in development, so far there is a replica of the "Red Shed" of Suzanne Aubert and a Fale (Polynesian Hut) of St Peter Chennel is under constrction.
The Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Light
The jewel of the Sanctuary of Fourvière is the Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Light (Mater Lucis).
The Shrine features a replica of the golden statue of Mary that was erected above the Basilica at Fourvière Lyon. A large marquee has been erected for special Masses and large events.
Pilgrims are welcome to visit and pray.
